2015 LIBERIA WORK PROGRAM SUCCESSES
Children Bible School
A three day Children’s Bible School was held in Belle Baloma and over 240 children attended over three days. This was a huge success with the children learning two lessons: David & Goliath: with Gods help even a little person can do anything; How Jesus Loved the Little Children: “Suffer the little children to come unto Me”. Considering we had 140 children last year it is evident that this is very popular program among the people.
Well Training
We anticipated about 10 people but 21 attended from 5 different towns attended. This training covers all the parts of the pump, how it works, how to remove various pump parts and make needed repairs and replace the removed parts. This program takes place over 5 days with the KM providing food and the local townspeople providing lodging.
Sanitation
We use the UNICEF program titled “Community Led Total Sanitation” which endeavors to get the local to recognize the need to keep their village free from feces. We conduct one workshop each year in a different town. This year 7 people from Belle Baloma took part and toured the town. During the village tour it was determined that there were several toilets in fairly good condition but 9 of them need to be rehabilitated and 4 new individual ones need to be built. Typically each family has their own toilet but in rare cases there is a public toilet / latrine.
Well Installation
We installed two new wells, one in Belle Baloma and one in Teiglei. An existing well in Teiglei was installed several years ago by someone else. Is was not installed deep enough to reach the water table during the dry season we “telescoped down” that well to a proper depth and the pump reinstalled. All wells were dug to a minimum of38’ with 11’-12’ of water in the bottom.
Clinic Medicines
We purchased medicines in Monrovia that were needed at the clinics in the Kuwaa area and distributed them to the clinics.
Ebola Relief
We provided funds to the Lutheran Church in Liberia, to Samaritan’s Purse in Liberia and to the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Liberia for their programs to provide relief to the families of those suffering from Ebola.
